The treatment process
1: First appointment
Before treatment, a full consultation will review your medical history, main concerns, and lifestyle factors such as digestion, sleep, headaches, and diet. This includes a non-invasive physical examination to help identify imbalances. Afterwards, we’ll discuss your treatment plan and carry out your first treatment. This appointment can last up to two hours.
2: Subsequent appointments
Subsequent appointments last up to one hour and begin with a catch-up to review your progress since the previous treatment. This discussion helps to assess any changes and informs the personalised treatment provided during the session.
3: Ongoing support
I am always available to respond to any queries or concerns you may have between treatments, offering guidance and support to ensure you feel confident and informed throughout your care.

Acupuncture FAQs
What is acupuncture and how does it work?
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that uses fine, sterile needles to stimulate specific points on the body. The overall aim of treatment is to direct the flow of energy to trigger your body’s healing response and to restore physical, emotional and spiritual balance. Acupuncture has also been found to trigger the release of endorphins.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people feel little to no pain. You may notice a slight tingling, warmth, or heaviness at the needle site, which is a normal sign the treatment is working.
How many treatments will I need?
Treatment plans vary depending on the nature of the complaint and how long it has been present for. It is recommended to have treatment weekly for five weeks initially to give your body a chance to sustain any changes. If the concern you present with has been present for many months or years it is not realistic to expect one treatment to address this.
Are there any side effects?
Occasionally the insertion of a needle will cause a small bruise and sometimes people can feel dizzy or tired after a treatment, but this passes quickly.
Is acupuncture safe?
Yes – as long as it is performed by a properly trained practitioner. It is recommended that only acupuncturists that belong to a professional organisation such as the British Acupuncture Council are used.
Can acupuncture work alongside other treatments?
Yes - acupuncture is often used in combination with conventional or complementary therapies. Always inform your practitioner about any ongoing treatments or medications.
